DESIGN SCHOOL KOLDING

This is my EGE carpet project from my time at The Design School Kolding in Denmark. I explored two themes within this project, investigating a sustainable way of printing using food waste and British cafe culture. I wanted to highlight the comfort in imperfection and translate the atmosphere of a relaxed ‘greasy spoon’ to the Aarhus canteen space I chose as my carpets context. My concept was fuelled by the waste created by carpet in comercial spaces, I thought about how a design could develop with its continued use. The design evolves with the addition of staining and use that comes with being in a canteen, ensuring its longevity.

Mood boards for colour and concept.

My first point of research was looking at the stains and marks I made with a week of eating. I used a plain white table cloth and scanned in the results.

‘Drawings’ using food waste and a heat press.

Creating a repeat pattern, using a colour palette from my cafe research.

The Final file sent the Ege Carpets for printing.
